Laziness...may not be a virtue but can be green...

As I sit typing in from of our new pellet stove (testing it out ...as it just got installed ...it needs to have a dry run ....otherwise...NO We don't turn on the heat in September !...) I realize that tonight's post may be coming in a few months too late for some of us...as fall has officially arrived...

However, in our home we actually grill all year and some of you out there may as well...so although summer has come to a close...let's chat about Green Grilling. I have a few dedicated gentlemen readers out there..and to one of them ..."thanks pal..this one is for you".....

We love grilling in our home but to be honest we are lazy grillers...no charcoal, no matches...just a good old gas Weber that we turn on so we can become Bobby Flay in seconds. Of course from one foodie to another we realize that to get the intense, rich, smoky flavor of True BBQ food...one would need to cook over charcoal or wood....hey I here you on that...I get it from a foodie point of view. But this is a green blog...sorry.
Some may attribute cooking with a gas grill to be similar to cooking with a microwave oven...I would not take it to that extreme...but I gotcha if you feel that way...I could never imagine cooking a meal in a microwave...we all have our limits. All I ask is that you contemplate my thoughts.

So...now for the green issue....sorry charcoal lovers ...gas is more eco-friendly........
and here is why...
most charcoal aficionados light their grills with lighter fluid ...lighter fluid that creates VOC's into the environment...specifically somewhere around 14,000 tons of VOC's (created from lighting the 46,000 tons of lighter fluid each year!)...now.. true... true...there are greener ways to ignite your charcoal grills...but most end up turning towards the lighter fluid....( a better choice would be using fat wood, an electric starting charcoal grill or natural & additive free charcoal....)

So...yeah for the lazy grillers out there...we may not be purists...but at least we are green.....!

And to those purists...I praise you too....just be mindful about the way you light your passion.
Be mindful...be green...be fabulous...
